Town of Windsor Septic Pump-Out Program
The Town of Windsor responded to the Code of Virginia law regarding the Chespeake Bay Preservation Area and in August of 2003 adopted a local ordinance that is required under Virginia Code Section 9VAC25 -830-130, and the Town of Windsor Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area Overlay District Section 57-11.6. Both require regular septic tank pump-outs be conducted by a licensed sewage handler at least once every 5 years.
The Chesapeake Bay Septic System Pump-Out Program was implemented to protect groundwater quality, as well as the water quality, of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Town of Windsor Planning & Zoning sends letters to property owners every 5 years to remind them of this requirement.
Even the most efficient septic tank systems require routine pump-outs to help maintain proper funstionality. Septic tanks need to be pumped out to remove any accumulated material and prevent problems that can lead to a septic system failure. Routine septic tank pump-outs, including proper maintenance by the homeowner, can significantly extend the life of a septic system.
