Come Celebrate Windsor!!

The Isle of Wight County Museum will present a railroad-themed anniversary program for the Town of Windsor to celebrate its’ 118th birthday in the Windsor Ruritan Club, 2 p.m. Sunday 15 March 2020.

On March 15th, 1902, “Windsor Station”, established by the Norfolk & Petersburg Railway in 1859, became the “Town of Windsor" by an act of the Virginia General Assembly.

The program will feature traditional railroad songs by “The Abeels” of Sussex and a presentation of some Norfolk & Western Railway history: John Henry the legendary “steel drivin’ man” and his successor “Jawn Henry” a coal-burning 4500 HP steam-turbine-electric locomotive. “John" helped build the railroad and “Jawn" helped push 10,000 ton coal trains over the Blue Ridge mountains.

There is no charge for this event but attendees may be asked to join in a spirited rendition of “happy birthday" to the Town of Windsor, Virginia. The Windsor Ruritan Club is at 14 Community Drive, Windsor, Va. 23487.
