Emergency Dial 911
Crime Tip Number - 242-0328
The
Town of Windsor Police Department was authorized by an ordinance
enacted by the Town Council on March 13, 1990. From 1990 until 2001,
law enforcement services were contracted to the Isle of Wight Sheriff's
Office, with all patrol and investigative functions provided by
Sheriffs Deputies.
With the appointment of Thomas M.
Hoernig, the first Police Chief was sworn in on December 11th, 2001,
thereby establishing the Windsor Police Department.
Currently, Windsor is well served by Chief Robert Porti, Officer Bill
Owens, and Officer A.V. Reynolds. These officers are committed to
providing full service law enforcement coverage to the citizens of
Windsor, and pledge to uphold the department's motto, "Community
First".
The
current emphasis of the police department is to answer calls for
service, promote citizen education and protection programs, and
increase traffic safety through routine enforcement. As the department
grows in size, the capabilities and services will be expanded to
provide additional services such as youth educational programs,
neighborhood watch coordination and enhanced security patrols.
